Virtual Event - How to Get Appointed to a State Board or Commission
Have you considered becoming active in your community? Are you already active in your community, but are looking for more ways to serve? Have you considered serving on a state Commission or Board?
An appointment to a State Board or Commission by the Governor or Assembly Speaker can be a very rewarding experience and ensures your community has a voice in state policy. As a member of a board or commission, you can influence public policy; bring attention to issues that you care about and help others understand why they are important; gain access to policymakers; learn about the political process; and serve as a role model for others in your community. But how does one find out about the various boards and commissions? What qualifications or expertise is needed? Is there an application to complete? What is the appointment process?
Few know the answers to those questions which is why I have partnered with the Office of Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, the Office of the Governor Gavin Newsom, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles in presenting a webinar to learn "How to Get Appointed to a State Board or Commission” on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 5:00-6:15pm.
Please join us for this FREE webinar to hear from Cathryn Rivera-Hernandez, Secretary of Appointments in the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom, and Juan Torres, Deputy Chief of Staff to Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, as they explain how to figure out what opportunities exist on commissions and boards, how to apply, and explain the appointment process for seeking an appointment from either the Governor or Assembly Speaker. There will be a brief welcome by myself and Cece Feiler, Chair, Community Engagement with The Jewish Federation of Greater LA,, followed by presentations on the respective appointments process for the Governor and Speaker, and we will leave ample time for live Q&A at the end of the program.
