Due to the recent passing of his mother, Assemblymember Bloom’s Annual Community Open House & School Supplies Drive has been rescheduled to Wednesday, August 1, 2018. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

We hope you will join us Wednesday, August 1st, along with fellow Assembly District 50 residents and business owners for an opportunity to learn about the services the District Office can provide you and to hear about the work the Assemblymember is doing on your behalf in Sacramento.

Donations of new backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming school year are greatly appreciated, but not required. Your donation of a new backpack or new school supplies reduces the financial burden to families and increases student readiness, leading to better educational outcomes. The items collected will be distributed to students at the Annual Hollywood Family Resource Fair in late August.

Did you know older Americans (over age  65) make up just 13-15% of our nation’s population but hold 70-75% of nationwide wealth?  According to the FBI, senior citizens are most likely to have a “nest egg,” to own their home, and/or to have excellent credit - anyone can become a victim of a scam, but if you are 65 years or older, you are a scammer’s prime target.

My office has partnered with the California Contractors State Licensing Board to present a FREE Senior Scam Stopper Seminar to be held Friday, March 23, 2018 in Hollywood.  Please join us for this free informational panel discussion to learn what you can do to prevent yourself, or someone you know, from becoming a victim of a scam.  You will also learn what to do if you or someone you know is a victim of a scam.

We need YOUR help!

On January 4th, Donald Trump proposed to open up the entire U.S. Outer Continental Shelf to new offshore oil and gas drilling.  If approved, the proposal would become the largest expansion of oil and gas drilling leases in U.S. History and the first off the coast of California since 1984.  We cannot let this happen. We will not let this happen.

How can YOU help?

Join me, Congressman Ted Lieu, Senator Ben Allen, Assemblymember Laura Friedman, local leaders and numerous leading environmental organizations at a public rally this Saturday to protest this reckless and relentless assault on our coast by the Trump administration.  At this rally, you will have a chance to hear directly from opposition leaders and learn how you can help defeat this proposal.

Why is this IMPORTANT?

On Thursday, February 8, the federal Bureau of Ocean and Energy Management (BOEM) will be taking public comment at their only scheduled hearing in California. We need you to take action and submit your testimony here. We are all too familiar with the horrors of past oil spills: 3 million gallons in Santa Barbara in 1969, 10.8 million gallons in Alaska in 1989, and 210 million gallons in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.  California's coast- the pristine, rugged shores of Northern California to the scenic Southern California beaches- all are at risk unless our collective voice is heard.

Car Seat Safety Check Road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children in the United States. Properly installed child safety seats are the most effective way to protect young children involved in car crashes, reducing the risk of fatal injury by up to 71 percent for infants and 54 percent for toddlers ages 1 to 4.

Unfortunately, studies have found that 73 percent of car seats are installed incorrectly.

Is your child's car seat installed properly?

My office is partnering with the Office of Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Koretz, California Highway Patrol, South Robertson Neighborhood Council and Kids Are 1st to host a Car Seat Safety Event on Sunday, January 21.  Stop by the event to have your child safety seat inspected by certified technicians representing the California Highway Patrol. This free event is open to all ages and will include Child ID Kits with fingerprints and a photograph - one of the most important tools used by authorities to aid in the recovery of a missing person.

Veterans, active duty and reserve duty service members are invited to join us at the American Legion Hollywood Post 43 at 11:00am to meet Secretary Imbasciani and to hear from him about the work CalVet is doing to improve services to California's veterans.  Other Veteran's groups and resource organizations will be represented at the event as well to provide relevant services to assist veterans.
