Bloom Takes Oath as Newest Assemblymember for 50th Assembly District

(SACRAMENTO) -  Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica) was sworn in today as the Assemblymember for the California’s 50th Assembly District.  The district is comprised of Agoura Hills, Malibu, Topanga, Pacific Palisades, Bel Air, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and areas of West Los Angeles and Hollywood.  The ceremony was held on the Assembly Floor at the State Capitol.

“This is an great honor, and I am humbled that the people of the 50th District put their faith in me,” said Bloom.

First elected to the Santa Monica City Council in 1999, Bloom just completed his third, non-consecutive, term as Mayor.  He has also served two terms as Mayor pro Tem during his 13 years on the City Council.

In the private sector, Bloom has nearly 30 years of experience practicing family law and has also worked in the non-profit world assisting low-income clients and the homeless.  He has served as a volunteer Judge Pro Tem and mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Courts and on the Executive Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Family Law Section.

“The greatest challenge my colleagues and I face in the Assembly is putting California on a fair, responsible and sustainable fiscal path,” continued Bloom.  “While we must confront the issues facing the state, we must not do so at the expense of our most vulnerable citizens: the poor, seniors, disabled and the millions of children attending our public schools.”

The oath of office was administered by the Honorable, Mary Lou Villar de Longoria, Judge, Los Angeles Superior Court.
