Domestic Violence Education Act Passes the Assembly Floor 70-0

For immediate release:

Sacramento – Earlier today, AB 1268, the Domestic Violence Education Act, was voted on by the full State Assembly and passed off of the floor with unanimous bi-partisan support and is on its way to the State Senate. The bill creates the California Domestic Violence Prevention Fund for the purpose of encouraging new prevention efforts throughout California.

"The issue of domestic violence is not a new one, given that in California alone 40% of women experience physical intimate partner violence”, said Assemblymember Eloise Gomez Reyes. “Though the state has done a great deal of work when it comes to caring for victims, it is critical however that we also prioritize prevention efforts. We can and must do more.”

On April 10th 2017, Karen Smith and Jonathan Martinez were gunned down at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino in a tragedy that is still affecting our community. Details from this catastrophe made clear that this event occurred as an escalation of domestic violence.

AB 1268 now goes to the Senate to be heard in its first policy committee. For more information on the bill, click here.

Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes represents Assembly District 47 which includes the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Bloomington.
