Assemblymember Reyes Statement on Cap and Trade Vote

For immediate release:

Sacramento – The following is Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes' statement on the Cap and Trade vote by the legislature earlier tonight.

“As the Assemblymember of the 47th District, nothing is more important to me than addressing issues of air quality, as well as the impending threat of climate change. Both of these issues affect the Inland Empire and are threats to the long term health, safety and economic strength of our community. This is why today I chose, after close review, to vote for AB 617 and AB 398, two bills that will both support clean air and address the effects of climate change. This is especially true when it comes to addressing mobile sources that burden the Inland Empire with some of the poorest air quality in the state. Although imperfect, these measures are a compromise that will allow California to continue to lead on critical issues while the Trump agenda continues to languish in Washington.”

“This process does not end here. The next step in this conversation will focus on the revenue that the Cap and Trade program brings in. It is in these conversations that San Bernardino has often not received its fair share. That ends today. I stand ready to fight for investment in the people of the 47th District. Today’s vote is a step in the right direction and part of a larger dialogue that will move our community forward.”

Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes represents Assembly District 47 which includes the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Bloomington.
