Sacramento – Today, House Resolution HR 66 on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), was voted on by the members of the State Assembly and passed off of the Assembly floor. HR 66, jointly authored by Assemblymembers Eloise Gómez Reyes and Mike Gipson condemns President Trump’s rescission of DACA and calls on the United States Congress to take affirmative steps toward development of a bipartisan and more effective version of DACA that provides a pathway to citizenship
"DACA has been a temporary relief for young people that arrived here as children, often as infants and toddlers, without documentation. The program has allowed them to become a new embodiment of the American Dream. Many Dreamers have become high-school valedictorians, college honors graduates, doctors, lawyers, engineers, first responders and members of our armed forces,” said Assemblymember Reyes. “While immigration is a matter of federal law the state of California must send a strong message that we support our Dreamers and want to see a quick solution that will keep them safe and free from the fear of deportation.”.
HR 66 came about after President Trump decided to end DACA on September 5th, casting doubt on the long-term status of the approximately 800,000 Dreamers in the US. The resolution also states that the Assembly supports a comprehensive and workable approach to solving our nation’s historically broken immigration system.

Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes represents Assembly District 47 which includes the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Bloomington.
