Assemblymember Reyes Honors Local Veterans With Legislation to Rename Freeway

For immediate release:

Sacramento – Today, ACR 230 authored by Assemblymember Eloise Reyes (D-San Bernardino), passed the Assembly Transportation committee on a vote of 14 to 0. The resolution which would rename a portion of State Route 215 between the cities of San Bernardino and Grand Terrace, the “Medal of Honor Memorial Freeway” will honor military service members from the area who have been recognized by the military and the federal government and received the Congressional Medal of Honor.

“Our veterans have given us so much and I think it is important to honor those who gave beyond what our country asked of them,” said Assemblymember Reyes. “It is extraordinary that there were so many soldiers from this particular area who were recognized by our government with Medals of Honor.” Assemblymember Reyes continued, “By renaming this stretch of the freeway, we proudly recognize that our local veterans have served with uncommon valor and distinction and with courage, sacrifice and determination.”

ACR 230 (Reyes) would rename a five mile stretch of the 215 freeway from West Orange Show Road at post mile 5.025 to Barton Road at 1.312 to recognize and honor a total of seven Medal of Honor recipients from this small area. These seven members represent a statistically large amount of honorees and an exceptionally high number per capita when given the total population of the area. The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest form of recognition the government can bestow on military service members.

ACR 230 will next be heard on the Assembly floor. For more information on the bill or to follow it, click here.
