Assemblymember Reyes Statement on White House Outreach on Supreme Court Nomination

For immediate release:

San BernardinoThe following is a statement made by Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes in connection with The White House asking San Bernardino City leaders to support the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh for the open position on the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Earlier this week, the Trump Administration reached out to city leaders in San Bernardino, seeking support for the President’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the open seat on the Supreme Court.  It is clear that this is an attempt to fabricate support that doesn’t exist for a nominee who is not qualified to serve in one of the most powerful positions in our democracy.    I see no reason why he would be fit for this position.

The Trump Administration would do better to check in on our local communities to ensure that children are not held in detention centers or that our economies are not suffering due to disastrous trade policies that will hurt hard working families.

The people of the 47th Assembly District do not support this candidate and his stances on workers’ rights, a woman’s right to control her own body, immigration, healthcare and firearms.  His history of poor legal reasoning is completely antithetical to the values we hold in San Bernardino and in California.”

Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes represents Assembly District 47 which includes the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Bloomington.
