Let’s Pass the California Values Act

(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-San Bernardino)was joined by supporters of Senate Bill 54, the California Values Act, for a State Capitol news conference in advance of upcoming votes on the measure. SB 54, co-authored by Assemblymember Reyes, expands "sanctuary city" policies statewide, prohibiting local law enforcement from acting as federal immigration officers. "This bill is not anti-law enforcement, it is pro-community safety," Assemblymember Reyes said. "The rhetoric being heard in Washington is the result of fear, hatred and bigotry. This rhetoric has led to the under-reporting of serious crimes from witness and victims of criminal activity who are unsure if cooperation with law enforcement would lead to detention and deportation."
