Wildfires and Climate Change the Focus of Joint Committee Hearing

Thursday, February 22, 2018

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica) presided over the first informational joint hearing of the Assembly Subcommittee on Resources and Transportation and the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management. The hearing focused on last year’s wildfires, the recovery efforts that are underway, and what the forecast is for the near future. Emphasizing that the time for action is now, Assemblymember Bloom quoted a 2015 fire prevention hearing, “Our climate is changing and this poses a serious threat to our environment, public health, and ultimately our way of life. Of course, how quickly and severely this threat impacts us largely depends on how quickly and aggressively we meet the challenge.” Watch more from Assemblymember Bloom at this hearing in this Assembly Access video.
