(Sacramento) - Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica) stood in solidarity with colleagues, staff, students and community members on the steps of the State Capitol to support the National School Walkout and help bring an end to gun violence. As thousands of students across the country participated in the walkouts to remember the 17 lives that were lost as a result of a school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Bloom and his colleagues stood in silence for 17 minutes. “We were all unified in thinking the same thoughts as we stood silently and in focusing our energy on moving forward and ending gun violence,” said Bloom. “The people who are speaking on this issue today are high school students and we would like them to look to California for inspiration, as we look to them for inspiration.”
