(FONTANA)— On Thursday evening, Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-Colton) honored Veterans of Distinction from the 50th State Assembly District in the Inland Empire, which she represents, and named her annual Veteran of the Year. Jo’lene Saldivar earned the top recognition, which is tied to the California State Assembly’s Annual Veteran of the Year event. Saldivar graduated from Colton High School before serving six years in the United States Air Force. During her two deployments, she earned several military honors and awards. She is now a Ph.D.

COLTON – California State Assembly Majority Eloise Reyes (D- Colton) issued the following statement on the release of the footage of the death of Tyre Nichols: 

“Tyre Nichols should still be alive.

He did not deserve to die. This was a routine traffic stop that ended with senseless violence and death. The body cam and street cam footage create deep heartbreak and outrage. This was another example of systemic racism against an unarmed Black man.

To Tyre’s family, friends and community, I wish you comfort in these days of mourning. We stand in solidarity.

(SACRAMENTO)— Today, Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-Colton) and Assemblymember Chris Ward (D-San Diego) introduced AB 312 to help individuals and families find, research and apply to available local affordable housing. Establishing the State Partnership for Affordable Housing Registries in California (SPAHRC) Grant Program would foster a relationship with the California Department of Housing and Community Development and local entities to create an online platform.

(SACRAMENTO)— Today, Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes introduced legislation to expand the Menstrual Equity for All Act of 2021 (Garcia) which created a requirement for public schools serving grades 6 through 12 to provide free menstrual products. Majority Leader Reyes’s bill, AB 230, would broaden this access to public schools serving grades 3 through 5.
