Assemblymember Reyes Introduces Bill to Expand Opportunities for Affordable Homeownership

Sacramento – California has the second-lowest rate of homeownership and the second largest housing deficit in the nation. Homeownership rates among Californians are grossly inequitable, largely due to a legacy of exclusionary housing policies. In 2019, only 41% of Black and 49% of Latinx families owned their homes, compared to 68% of White and 66% of Asian families.

Assembly Majority Leader Reyes Statement on Governor Newsom’s California Blueprint Budget

Sacramento –I am encouraged to hear Governor Newsom present a budget that supports the values and work we have been doing in the State Assembly. As we continue to battle the pandemic, we are faced with economic, social and environmental issues that need our immediate attention. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the next few months to build and enhance on this California Blueprint Budget to build a budget that meets this moment.

 

LAO Finalizes Report Requested by Assembly Majority Leader Reyes to Improve Youth and Family Engagement in State Government.

Sacramento – Today, Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-San Bernardino) is sharing the findings of a report from the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) regarding youth and family engagement with State entities. The report is based on a request Majority Leader Reyes made of the LAO last year to conduct research on the ways State departments and agencies were engaging youth and family representatives in their advisory bodies.

Majority Leader Reyes’ Bill to Extend Worker Protections to Classified School Employees is signed by Governor

Sacramento – AB 438 authored by Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes (D -San Bernardino) was signed into law by Governor Newsom.  AB 438 will standardize the layoff process and extend existing worker protection to school bus drivers, food service workers and other classified employees. This bill seeks to ensure workers receive equal treatment regardless of job title.  

 

Legislation Authored by Majority Leader Reyes to Protect the Rights of Nursing Home Residents is Signed by the Governor

Sacramento –Governor Newsom signed AB 849 authored by Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-San Bernardino) in response to troubling reports concerning the treatment of senior citizens in skilled nursing facilities.  AB 849 ensures skilled nursing facilities are held accountable for violating the rights of seniors by allowing civil penalties on a per violation basis which is intended to deter potential violations and hold facilities accountable for how they treat their residents.
