Nursing Home Eviction Notice Protection Act Introduced by Assembly Majority Leader Reyes

(SACRAMENTO)— Evictions of nursing home residents often occur when high-rate Medicare payments expire and lower-rate Medi-Cal payments begin. These evictions can occur with little to no justification. Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-Colton) introduced AB 1309 to require nursing homes to provide more information about each eviction and transfer of a resident. California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform (CANHR), a statewide nonprofit advocacy organization, is sponsoring the bill.

Bilingual Teacher Shortage Addressed in Bill Introduced by Majority Leader Reyes

(SACRAMENTO)— Today, Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes introduced AB 1127 to address California’s growing need for bilingual teachers in languages such as Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog and Arabic. Majority Leader Reyes’s bill, cosponsored by California State Superintendent Tony Thurmond, would revise and continue the BTPDP program, which successfully provided professional learning opportunities to school faculty and staff until its funding expired in June 2021.

(FONTANA)— Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes marked the start of the 2023-24 legislative cycle at her Community Swearing-in Ceremony on Saturday, February 11 at the Steelworkers’ Auditorium in Fontana. California Attorney General Rob Bonta administered the oath of office and former State Senator Connie Leyva, now with KVCR, acted as the Master of Ceremonies. The 2023-24 session will be Majority Leader Reyes’ fourth term representing portions of the Inland Empire in the State Assembly, but this will be her first term representing the new 50th Assembly District.

FONTANA– Attorney General Rob Bonta will administer the oath of office for California Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gómez Reyes at her Community Swearing-in Ceremony this Saturday, February 11 in Fontana. The 2023-24 session will be Majority Leader Reyes’ fourth term representing portions of the Inland Empire in the State Assembly, but this will be her first term representing the newly drawn 50th Assembly District. All legislative lines were redrawn last year using the most recent U.S. Census data.
