(FONTANA, CA) — Today, Assembly Majority Leader Emeritus Eloise Gómez Reyes provided the following statement regarding the warehouse proposal decision made this week by Fontana City Council:
“I was glad to see that earlier this week the Fontana City Council decided to not approve a project proposal for three warehouses near Jurupa Hills and Citrus High Schools,” said Reyes. “This was the correct decision and was in the best interest of the families of Fontana and students attending the nearby schools. Although the vote was a victory for the community, I fully expect a similar proposal to return to the council that has the potential to have negative impacts.
We need to be clear: any new warehouse development should follow the guidelines laid out in AB 1000, including a substantial mandatory setback that can be reduced if commitments are made to eliminate idling and to adopt zero emission vehicles, both onsite and coming into a facility. If more space is being made available for a warehouse to neighbor schools and homes in our community, they need to be good neighbors. We can grow our economy while keeping our residents safe.”
