SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Bloom (D – Santa Monica) announced the introduction of legislation to require health insurance policies and plans to cover hearing aids for children. Bloom was joined by co-authors Assemblymember Kevin Mullin (D-South San Francisco) and Assemblymember James Gallagher (R-Yuba City), as well as advocates and families supporting the bill.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica) introduced Assembly Bill 366, also known as the California Pet Blood Bank Modernization Act, aimed at allowing animal blood banks in California to utilize a donor blood collection system for dogs and cats.

SACRAMENTO – Yesterday, Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 2998 into law, approving a statewide ban on specific household products that contain toxic flame retardant chemicals. The measure, which was introduced by Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica), prohibits the sale of juvenile products, specified mattresses and mattress components, and upholstered or reupholstered furniture in California that contain unnecessary toxic flame retardant chemicals.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 1771 into law, approving significant reforms to the way local jurisdictions determine regional housing needs. AB 1771, authored by Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica), makes several changes to this process, known as the Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) process, including requiring the regional distribution to be more data-driven and equitable.

SACRAMENTO – AB 2797 was signed yesterday by Governor Jerry Brown, providing a much needed clarification to the application of State Density Bonus Law and the Mello Act in the Coastal Zone. The measure, introduced by Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica) clarifies that a project cannot be found inconsistent with the Coastal Act merely because it receives a density increase under state law.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law a measure to provide the same legal protection to children of same-sex couples as is afforded to other families. AB 2684, authored by Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica), updates California’s Uniform Parentage Act, which was promulgated to extend the parent-child relationship equally to every child and parent, regardless of the martial status of the parents.
