Governor Brown Signs Legislation to Bring Clean Energy to Disadvantaged Communities

Sacramento – On Saturday, Governor Brown signed AB 523, the Equity in Clean Energy Investments Act. The bill would dedicate at least 25% of available Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) funds for clean energy projects in disadvantaged communities, and an additional 10% in low-income households. The bill has been a priority of its author, Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-San Bernardino) and by its co-sponsors, the Women’s Policy Institute and the California Environmental Justice Alliance (CEJA).

Legislation to Ensure Fiscal Transparency at California’s Veterans Homes Signed by Governor Brown

Sacramento – Yesterday, Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 1365 (Reyes) into law at the State Capitol. The bill by Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes, would implement a program to ensure fiscal transparency at the state’s eight veterans homes which provide managed and long-term care to thousands of veterans in the state. The bill also requires CalVet to prepare an annual financial report  on the homes and provide a copy of the report to the legislature  as well as make available the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) website.

Governor Brown Signs Bill on Suspension Intervention

Sacramento – Yesterday afternoon, Governor Brown signed into law AB 667 by Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes. AB 667 ensures that a student and their parent/guardian are notified of prior corrective action that was taken before resorting to suspending the student from school. This bill aims to provide the suspended student and their parent/guardian with a full and transparent accounting of the proceedings in order to help curb the school attendance crisis that is ongoing around the state.

Bill to Assist Victims of Terrorism Heads to the Governor’s Desk

Sacramento –AB 44, a bill authored by Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-San Bernardino), that arose from the from the December 2nd 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino, passed out of the Legislature and is now at the Governor’s desk to await his signature.  Introduced on the one-year anniversary of the attack, the bill requires that employees injured in an act of terrorism must receive the immediate services of a nurse case manager and that they be told of the medical treatment options that are available.

California Passes Resolution Urging Congress to Immediately Act on DACA

Sacramento – Today, House Resolution HR 66 on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), was voted on by the members of the State Assembly and passed off of the Assembly floor.  HR 66, jointly authored by Assemblymembers Eloise Gómez Reyes and Mike Gipson condemns President Trump’s rescission of DACA and calls on the United States Congress to take affirmative steps toward development of a bipartisan and more effective version of DACA that provides a pathway to citizenship

Governor’s Parole Board Hears and Recommends Pardon for Kim Carter

Sacramento – Earlier today, Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes attended the Board of Parole hearings in Sacramento to support and testify on the pardon application of Kimberly Carter. Carter, a constituent of the 47th District, turned her life completely around after being formerly incarcerated, and not only went on to earn an accounting degree, but became a community advocate and beacon of hope for women and children in her community. A few hours after the hearing, the Parole Board made its recommendation to Governor Brown to pardon Kim Carter.

Governor Brown Signs AB 1523, Providing Expedited Construction Process for Mt. Vernon Bridge

Sacramento – Yesterday, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed AB 1523 by Assemblymembers Eloise Gómez Reyes (D- Grand Terrace) and Assemblymember Jay Obernolte (R- Big Bear). AB 1523 will allow an expedited construction process to be used to begin much needed repairs to the Mt. Vernon Bridge that serves as a major transportation artery for San Bernardino.

Governor Brown Signs AB 1139 (Reyes), Increasing Consumer Protection for Homebuyers

Sacramento – Today, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed AB 1139 by Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes, a bill that requires homebuyers to be notified during the purchase of a home whether the property has a Private Transfer Fee (PTF). AB 1139 will protect homebuyers when making these large purchases by ensuring that they are aware that the presence of a PTF could potentially limit their financing options.

Governor Brown Signs AB 617 Renewing Statewide Commitment to Air Quality

Bell Gardens – Today, Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes (D- San Bernardino) joined with Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. and legislative leaders for a signing ceremony for AB 617. The bill, joint-authored by Assemblymember Reyes and several of her colleagues puts measures in place to reduce both stationary and mobile sources of pollution, representing a historic effort that links the fight for air quality to continued action on climate change.
