February 2017

Dear Friends,

I’m pleased to have crafted a legislative package reflective of your concerns and our district’s needs. We’re addressing issues that will affect our communities specifically, the Inland Empire generally as well as the entire state. Highlighted below are just a few of the bills I hope to pass this session.

Sacramento News

  • AB44- My first piece of legislation, introduced on the first anniversary of the December 2, 2015 San Bernardino terrorist attacks, provides for expedited medical review process for the victims so that they can get the treatment they need and continue the recovery process.
  • AB523- So much of the funding that has been available for clean and renewable technology has completely missed our district! That’s why I’ve authored this bill which requires that 25 percent of renewable technology funds be spent in disadvantaged communities like ours and 10 percent to be spent specifically in low-income communities.
  • AB578- Makes threatening any witness by using immigration status or suspected immigration status a felony.
  • AB550- Provides support for long-term care Ombudsman programs which help investigate and resolve various issues in long-term health care facilities and residential care facilities.
  • AB667- Provides a transparent and fair process for students who are at risk of being suspended from school.

Also, in the past few weeks we've worked hard to bring more resources to the district and just last week I joined Congressman Pete Aguilar, Board of Equalization member Fiona Ma and CalEITC4Me Chair Joseph N. Sanberg to host  a workshop with CalEITC4Me in San Bernardino where representatives helped with filing taxes and applying for the new State Earned Income Tax Credit. I've also put out a Public Service Announcement with Senator Connie Leyva, “Remember, It's Your Money, So Get It!”.
