Sacramento – Yesterday, the Assembly Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care passed AB 550 (Reyes) with unanimous bi-partisan support by a vote of 7-0. The bill will ensure the sustainability of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.
“In order to serve the current need and to increase services for the growing population of seniors in long-term care, it is important that we do everything possible to protect our seniors and ensure that they are in safe environments,” said Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes. “AB 550 is a critical step that will help serve and provide for the growing population of seniors in long-term care.”
In California, Long-Term Care Ombudsman organizations monitor and assist residents in both skilled nursing facilities such as nursing homes and residential care facilities for the elderly. They play a critical role in the lives of seniors because Ombudsman are able to intervene on behalf of a resident. They are able to identify, investigate and resolve complaints before they result in serious and costly cases of abuse and neglect.
Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes represents Assembly District 47 which includes the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Bloomington.
