April 2017

Dear Friends,

In our third month in Sacramento we keep fighting to bring something back to our District that has been missing for a while; representation and a voice in the legislature. In the past few weeks my staff and I have been advancing our legislative package that helps the people in our cities with what they need most. We’ve advanced bills out of committees to provide transparency to students and parents when a student is suspended (AB 667) and to protect people in our community that have been victims or witnesses of crimes from being threatened with their immigration status (AB 578). There’s much work left to do but as always, I’m fighting for us and for our community interests. Please remember that my offices in Sacramento and San Bernardino are always open to you and please know that my staff and I are here to listen, plan and act on what you need.  Please come in and tell us how we can improve and protect our district!

Woman of the Year Luncheon

On March 4th, I held a Woman of the Year Luncheon at Sundowner Restaurant in San Bernardino to honor and celebrate the Woman of the Year nominees from the 47th Assembly District.

Congratulations to my mother Jessie Gómez who was selected to receive this year’s Woman of the Year award. Your community activism and commitment to our community has inspired me to serve others and give back to my community.

Young Leaders Corner

I am excited to announce that 40 students were chosen to be part of the 1st class of the Young Legislators. These 40 students attended the orientation on March 4th at the Rialto Community Center. During the orientation, the students had the opportunity to meet each other, discuss upcoming sessions, and learn about the policy and expectations of the program. They also took the official oath of office of a Young Legislator.

Roundtable Discussion with Attorney General

On March 23rd, I hosted California Attorney General Xavier Becerra for a community roundtable discussion at San Bernardino Valley College to discuss issues important to the 47th Assembly District.   The Attorney General listened to law enforcement, environmental groups, social justice organizations and local elected officials who updated him on critical issues such as public safety, education, and immigration.  Attorney General Becerra reminded everyone that he “has their back”.
