Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes Releases Statement on 9th Circuit Decision to Overturn Travel Ban

For immediate release:

Sacramento – Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-San Bernardino) released the following statement in response to the ruling of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit on President Trump’s travel ban:

“The President has used the tragedy of the December 2nd, 2015 terrorist attack in San Bernardino as a cynical ploy to justify a dangerous overreach of executive action. This is a clear attempt to manipulate the public and will only divide our nation and create an atmosphere of fear in our immigrant communities.  Common sense and justice have prevailed as the judicial branch of government upheld the stay against the travel ban so that courts can consider the full ramifications of the ban.  While the President may think that the power of his office knows no bounds, the constitution was designed specifically as a counter-balance to unchecked executive power.”

Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes is the newly-elected member of the State Legislature, representing Assembly District 47 which includes the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Bloomington.
