For immediate release:

Sacramento – Today, Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes was appointed the Chair of the Select Committee on Environmental Quality and the Green Economy in the Inland Empire by Speaker of the Assembly Anthony Rendon. The Select Committee will examine the sources and impacts of air pollution in the Inland Empire by bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders and experts to recommend tangible proposals that will protect vulnerable communities while ensuring growth of the employment base.  The committee will also examine ways in which the Inland Empire can benefit from, and expand the green economy while improving air quality.

“Our area suffers from poor air quality and a lack of good paying jobs.  I look forward to addressing the Inland Empire’s continuing environmental issues and exploring efforts that we can take to bring green jobs to our region” said Assemblymember Reyes. “For far too long, the region’s poor air quality has been dragging down the quality of life and it’s time to change that with greener economic possibilities.”

In 2014, San Bernardino had 76 days that violated the federal standard for ozone, a lung-damaging ingredient in smog. Fontana had 52.

Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes represents Assembly District 47 which includes the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Bloomington.
