North Park Elementary Shooting Statement

JOINT PRESS RELEASE: From the offices of Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes & Senator Connie M. Leyva

For immediate release:

San Bernardino – Today, as the tragic events at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino continue to unfold, our hearts and prayers go out to the children, their families and others affected by this senseless violence. We are grateful to law enforcement and school leaders for their quick response to the tragedy.

There were two adult fatalities in what is being described as a murder-suicide. Two children were also injured and transported to local hospitals. The names of the victims have not been released. Counselors were immediately called to assist the students as they were taken to a secure location.

We ask for prayers for the students injured. We also ask the community for your continued support of our law enforcement professionals as they conduct their investigation and begin to piece together the events that resulted in this devastating incident. We are still receiving updates on the situation and will provide information as needed.

Parents can pick up their children at Cajon High School. They are urged to bring proper identification.

Moving forward, we will continue to work with our partners in the City and County of San Bernardino to ensure public safety for our residents. Our children and the community should know that their safety and security are our top priority.

We remind our teachers, parents and students that our offices are available to provide assistance.
