Major (ret) Don Larkin honored as AD47 Veteran of the Year by Assemblymember Reyes

Sacramento – Yesterday, Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes and other members of the California State Assembly honored veterans at the 10th annual Veterans Luncheon at the Sacramento Convention Center.  Honorees spanned service in armed conflicts from World War II to current military personal in armed conflicts in the Middle East and around the globe.

For the 47th district, Assemblymember Reyes Chose to honor retired Major Don Larkin of Grand Terrace. Larkin served in the US Army from 1974 when he enlisted at the age of 18 in the Florida National Guard, all the way until 2015 when he retired as a Major in the US Army Reserve. During his time in service to our country, Maj. Larkin was assigned to positions in Germany, various positions stateside and active duty tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. 

For his service, Major Larkin earned multiple awards, including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and the Ranger Tab.

“Major Larkin’s story exemplifies the contribution that veterans make, not just to our national defense, but also their contributions to their local communities,” said Assemblymember Reyes. “Our community is better because of his dedication to service.”

Since leaving active duty, Don has worked for San Bernardino County in various positions from 1989 to 2004 and LifeStream Blood bank from 2006 until last year. He is currently attending the Art Institute – Inland Empire, under the GI Bill, majoring in Digital Photography. He has also been active with numerous community organizations and served as a Grand Terrace City Councilmember from 1999 to 2004.

Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes represents Assembly District 47 which includes the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Bloomington.
