Assemblymember Reyes Appointed to Speaker’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Early Childhood Education

For immediate release:

Sacramento– Earlier this week, Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes (D- San Bernardino) was appointed to the Speaker’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Early Childhood Education by Speaker of the Assembly Anthony Rendon. The Speaker’s Blue Ribbon Commission was created during the 2016-2017 Budget in an effort to strategically plan improvements to the underfunded and struggling early education system.

Many state programs were cut during the Great Recession and education was particularly hard hit, including those programs for early learning. Although recent investments have helped, the system is still struggling to stay afloat and every dollar that members successfully fight for is a benefit of early experiences for children.

“I am honored that Speaker Rendon has appointed me to the Blue Ribbon Commission, said Assemblymember Reyes.  “I have seen first-hand in my community and communities across California the challenges faced by parents and children and access to early education.   I am looking forward to working with members of the Commission to offer solutions to ensure that children in our state have as many opportunities as possible.”

This most recent appointment continues to bolster and expand Assemblymember Reyes’ legislative commitment to do more for the underserved and to bring back resources that have been lacking from many of these communities in recent years, including the 47th Assembly District.

Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes represents Assembly District 47 which includes the cities of Fontana, Rialto, Colton, Grand Terrace, San Bernardino and the unincorporated areas of Muscoy and Bloomington.
